Job Corps: Job Corps exists to provide quality job training in a student-oriented program. The purpose is to train disadvantaged young men and women in a vocational skill and prepare them for the job market.
Piedmont Community Actions, Inc.: This organization exists to provide a nurturing environment in which low-income families receive emergency assistance and services that help them become less dependent on the government and more on themselves. It is the philosophy of Piedmont Community Actions to give low-income families a "hand up, not a hand out" as a step in the direction of self-sufficiency. The agency has been in existence for over 34 years.
South Carolina Commission for the Blind: This organization is committed to the promotion of dignity and the development of opportunities for independence, including employment, for South Carolina residents of all ages who are blind or severely visually impaired.
S.C. Department of Social Services (DSS): The mission of the SC Department of Social Services is to ensure the health and safety of children and adults who cannot protect themselves, to help parents provide nurturing homes, and to help people in need of financial assistance reach their highest level of social and economic self-sufficiency.
South Carolina Employment Security Commission Unemployment Insurance: The SC Employment Security Commission pays unemployment insurance benefits to workers who are unemployed and meet all eligibility requirements. This system of insurance was established to assist workers between jobs, to maintain purchasing power and to limit the serious effects of unemployment on the community and state.
South Carolina Employment Security Commission: To provide services for both companies and individuals ranging from finding qualified applicants with job openings to employment training for qualified individuals.
South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department: This program enables South Carolinians with disabilities to prepare for, achieve and maintain competitive employment.
Senior Community Service/ Older Workers: The goal of this program is to assist with securing unsubsidized employment for clients who are 55 years of age and older. The major objectives of the project are to meet two real and pressing needs commonly experienced by elderly, low-income persons who have poor employment prospects: (1) the need for additional income and (2) the need to regain a sense of involvement with the community and the mainstream of life generally.
Spartanburg County Adult Education: The Spartanburg County Adult Education offers the following classes to students 17 years of age and older: high school diploma, Pre-GED, GED, Literacy Skills, and English as a Second Language.
The Adult Learning Center: The Adult Learning Center is a nonprofit organization that provides basic literacy skills, GED preparation, English as a Second Language and other classes.
Spartanburg Community College (SCC): The college is dedicated to helping students achieve their career goals by offering a variety of courses and services designed to prepare students to be successful in their chosen field of study.
Telamon Corporation: This program offers services for the migrant, seasonal farm worker to assist both the worker and the employer.
Spartanburg Housing Authority: Housing Authority Employment and Training Programs: This organization promotes and provides safe, decent, and affordable housing for S.C. citizens. They offer various services and programs to help achieve this goal.
The Urban League of the Upstate: A non-profit organization committee to the principle of equal opportunity for all citizens in housing, education, employment, and economic development, without regard to race or socia-economic status. We use education as a platform to create economic opportunities in the less affluent areas of upstate SC. Our mission is to "enable minorities and disadvantaged people to become self-sufficient, secure and healthy by providing programs in education, job training, employment, housing and health care, and to gain the support of community groups to help achieve these goals." Our hope is that through the fulfillment of this mission, we can aide in the development of a community where all citizens are provided equal opportunity to achieve their fullest potential.
USC Upstate Achieve: An organization funded through the Upstate Workforce Investment Board that provides GED and training services for youth ages 15 - 21. They teach participants good work ethics and provide career counseling.
